Solar Power Electricity And Black Silicon

solar power electricity, solar power, power electricity, solar energy

Research into solar power electricity by scientists at Harvard University has discovered a material called ‘black silicon’ which is between 100 and 500 times more sensitive to light than traditional silicon.

This 'black silicon' has got the scientists very excited as it could revolutionize solar energy generation.

Scientists shone an extremely powerful laser on a silicon wafer, before adding sulphur hexafluoride. This turned the silicon black or so they thought. But under closer scrutiny, the silicon wafer was covered with a large amount of microscopic spikes.

Are you tired of soaring fuel bills? Would you like your very own solar power system for under $200/£100 that will save you 80% on your electricity bill and help the environment? If the answer is 'YES' then click here for more information. As seen on CNN.

Now this 'black silicon' has been found to be very sensitive to light. James Carey, co-founder of SiOnyx - a Harvard spin-off company - said, "We have seen a 100 to 500 times increase in sensitivity to light compared to conventional silicon detectors."

This has lead many in the industry to believe that this can be adapted to To return to the solar power electricity cells.

And with Harvard licensing the technology to its spin off company SiOnyx, it seems the University could have a winner on the hands if it can further adapt the silicon for solar photovoltaic use.
