Toyota Solar Power Car To Hit Market

Toyota are working on a plan to install solar PV panels on it’s popular hybrid; 'The Prius'.

With ever-increasing fuel costs and the urgent call to go green, the Prius has been in big demand and Toyota has been struggling keeping up with orders.

With all the talk about motor vehicles causing huge amounts of pollution, hybrids such as the Prius are seen as environmentally friendly.

And demand for these cars is expected to soar as oil becomes more expensive.

Now those clever people at Toyota want to one step further and put into place the worlds first car powered by solar energy for the mainstream.

To begin with, Toyota admit that the addition of solar panels on the Prius models will be for show more then anything else. Solar PV panels are expensive and while they can economically viable on a house, the panels on the Prius are expected only to help keep the vehicle cool during the summer.

At the moment it is just not economically viable to power the entire car on solar energy but with technological advances coming on in leaps and bounds, we won't be far off that goal.

Toyota’s Prius is just one hybrid in a growing market of hybrid cars. Attempts have been made before to break into the mainstream market without success.

But with fuel costs at record highs and the need to cut carbon emissions urgent, this solar power car is in greated demand than ever before.
