Solar Energy Information
The solar energy information on this site is wide and varied. On this section we'll deal with just what solar power is. Put in the simplest terms, solar energy is energy from the sun. This energy supports virtually all life on this planet. You use it when you hang out your laundry to dry. You probably never thought of it in this way but it is solar energy at work at its most basic. There are 2 types of solar energy. Solar photovoltaic energy (PV) and concentrating solar water heaters that convert sunlight into energy that we can use. Solar PV is direct, using silicon-based panels to convert the sunlight into electricity. Solar water heaters capture heat form the sun via collectors and use that heat for water and space heating, ventilation, cooking - especially in remote locations where there might not be electricity - and also water distillation and disinfection.
