The US is one of the leading lights in residential solar power use. Although recent times have seen it fall behind the likes of Germany and Japan, it is now on the rise again.
With its infrastructure already in place, home solar power kits readily available and great climate in many parts of the country, residential solar power is ripe for major expansion.
Although the US has fallen behind many of its rivals in terms of production of solar panels, it is still a major player.
And it needs to be...
Although the USA accounts for only 5% of the world's population, it consumes 26% of the world's energy. And the average American will use 15 times more energy than a person from a developing country.
So, as you can see, other forms of energy, especially home solar power kits, are of the upmost importance.
Whilst most other nations solar energy policies are created at national level, the USA's are normally created at state level.
And with the many seperate state initiatives - such as in California - residential solar power is firmly back on the agenda.
Well over 1 million home solar power kits for heating water have been installed in the United States. Over 80% of these have been to regular households.
And another 20,000 households in the United States now utilize photovoltaic solar panels.
Of course, you don't need to spend big when trying to install solar panels. You could go the DIY route and spend next-to-nothing. As long as you know what you're doing you can build perfectly good solar panels on the cheap. Click here for more details.
Biggest US Players
The biggest market in the US is undeniably California with over 80% of residential solar energy grid connected installations taking place there.
New Jersey has emerged as the next forward thinking State with the installation of solar panels high on the agenda.
And to help more Americans benefit from home solar power kits, the U.S. Energy Policy Act implemented a whopping 30% tax credit for households who install these systems.
To qualify for this tax credit, the residential solar power water heating systems must be certified by the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (SRCC).
