Calculating Energy Costs Per Household
Calculating energy costs per household is a doddle!
There are several ways to calculate your electrical energy consumption and costs. You needn't be a brainbox. I've made it as simple as possible for you to do. Here, have a go... Calculating electrical energy use Finding the total number of units of electricity used in the year is straightforward. Just subtract the reading on your first bill from the 'present reading' on the current bill. These units will be kWh. These letters stand for kilowatt-hours. The kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the unit used for measuring energy use. Calculating electrical energy costs Multiply the cost of your kWh by the number of kWh to get the cost of electricity. Add the VAT and whatever other charges you might incur. Calculating your heating energy use and costs Add the number of kWh or units and costs for a 12 month period. Then add on top the VAT and other charges. Calculating The Energy Usage and Cost Rating Of Your House Your home's energy usage is a figure that relates the amount of energy you use in a year to the internal floor area of your house. This will be worked out as kWh per m2 per year. Work out the approximate floor area - excluding garages or outside buildings unless they are heated - in the house which are heated. Add together the annual total number of kWh (units) used for electricity and heating. Then divide this figure by the floor area. This will give you the annual energy usage for your home. For example, a house of 150 m2 area which uses 8,502 kWh of electricity and 32,416 kWh of heating energy in a year has an energy usage of 273 kWh / m2 per year. And that is how you go about calculating energy costs per household. I told you it was easy!
