Backsheets, which are a protective layer on solar pv modules, are normally made from petroleum products which are not really green.
But BioSolar’s product are made from a biobased polyamide resin made from castor beans. The company claims that in addition to being less expensive and more sustainable, its single-layer construction avoids the delamination problem the current petroleum-based backsheets have.
The facts about solar energy are well documented but one of the main concerns in manufacturing solar panels has always been the issue of manufacturing solar energy installations from components made with petroleum products. It is just not friendly to the environment.
But coupled with the fact that this backsheet is also cheaper than a petroleum backed solar panel makes this products all the more appealing.
It doesn't matter whether solar panels are produced using crystalline silicon, amorphous silicon or other solar technologies. It seems BioSolar can help cut the cost of solar panels through the use of its lower cost bio-based materials, making solar energy more affordable for everyone.
Up until now, the manufacturing and disposal of solar energy products has not been as environmentally-friendly as the solar energy they produce. By removing petroleum from solar panels, BioSolar makes solar energy a true green source of energy
